OOSB is an ISO14000:2015 certified organization, certified since 2003. Its environmental management system adheres to the highest standard of environmental compliance based on best industry practices that are stricter than acceptable standards for the environmental pollutants discharged from the workplace.

OOSB conducts voluntary surveillance activities and ongoing environmental monitoring program for ambient air, stack, effluent and noise. The hazardous waste disposal is also in place by setting up an organization in charge of environmental matters in each workplace.        

As for the equipment for handling hazardous chemical substances, OOSB installed detectors at various plant areas like butane plant area, reactor area, etc. to prevent the discharge of these substances (gases) and is closely monitoring them through regular checks, assessments and education to ensure that they are not discharged. In addition, the discharge from stacks like carbon dioxide (CO2), nitrogen dioxide (as NOx), carbon monoxide (CO) and etc. is also be monitored and analysed by the external monitoring by Skim Akreditasi Makmal Malaysia (SAMM) accredited laboratory.

In addition, the discharge from stacks like carbon dioxide (CO2), nitrogen dioxide (as NOx), carbon monoxide (CO) and etc. is also be monitored and analysed by the external monitoring by Skim Akreditasi Makmal Malaysia (SAMM) accredited laboratory. In addition, ambient air quality monitoring inside the premise is also monitored to ensure the ambient is not exceed New Malaysia Ambien Air Quality Standard for PM10, PM2.5, SO2, NO2, CO and O3). The monitoring points are as below:

a) Point A1 : Near to Distillation Plant & Plant Boundary

b) Point A2 : Near to Workshop & Store & Plant Boundary

c) Point A3 : Office/Admin Building Area

d) Point A4 : Near to Butane Plant, Fire Water Tank & Scrap Area

e) Point A5 : Near to Bullet Tanks, Flare Area & Fire Water Tank Area

To ensure the systematic control of water pollutants, OOSB operates a biological wastewater treatment plant in the workplace and is effectively treating and controlling wastewater through regular internal performance monitoring competent person (CePIETSO-BP) as well as external monitoring by Skim Akreditasi Makmal Malaysia (SAMM) accredited laboratory. The discharge is ensured to comply the Standard B.

In addition, every discharge from plant boundaries are also be monitored to meet the Standard B at the below points:

a) Point A : Upstream discharge from workshop & store

b) Point B : Upstream discharge from oxidation plant & incinerator area

c) Point C : Upstream discharge from flaker & warehouse area

d) Point D : Upstream discharge from office & canteen area

e) Point E : Downstream discharge from ETP

Noise monitoring program is also be carried out to ensure that the noise generated during operation phase so as not to exceed the level of 70 db(A) in the boundary of the premise during the day time (7:00 am till 7:00 pm) and not above 60 dB(A) during the night time (7:00 pm till 7:00 am) internally and externally by competent person. The noise is monitored at the below boundaries:

a) Point N1 : Near to Distillation Plant & Plant Boundary

b) Point N2 : Near to Workshop & Store & Plant Boundary

c) Point N3 : Office/Admin Building Area

d) Point N4 : Near to Butane Plant, Fire Water Tank & Scrap Area

e) Point N5 : Near to Bullet Tanks, Flare Area & Fire Water Tank Area

OOSB is taking the lead in reducing and making resources out of waste through process improvements and facility investments with the awareness that “waste is a resource.” By implementing “From Cradle to Grave” approach, we track the source of waste and cause of its generation and educate our employees about the efficient control and reduction of waste. For example, we reuse the residue waste (SW 315) generated from the process by burning it into the incinerator to recover waste heat as steam for plant utility. Other scheduled wastes are disposed to DOE authorised party like Kualiti Alam Sdn. Bhd., Qualitest Engineering Sdn. Bhd. and Meridian Recycling Sdn. Bhd.

In addition, for non-scheduled wastes, they will be disposed to the gazetted area by the certified local authority party. The collection of domestic waste will be done twice a week.
